# Updating Vio Camera / Gimbal Firmware

These are the instructions for updating the Software Package and Gimbal Firmware on the Gremsy Vio, both of which are necessary steps for taking advantage of the latest IGC features.

## IGC 1.6 Update Information

With the release of IGC 1.6, IGC now takes advantage of a new gimbal control method on the Gremsy Vio and that creates additional stability and enables features such as tap to move gimbal. Until the update steps below are completed on the Gremsy Vio, IGC will prompt the user to update the Vio. If this message is ignored, users may notice instability with certain gimbal control features.

## Vio Camera Software Package Update Steps

1. Verify that IGC is updated to the latest version. [How to update](/inspired-documentation/products/inspired-suite/inspired-ground-control-igc/how-to-update-install-igc/updating-installing-igc-manually.md).
2. Download the [Vio Payload Software v3.0.6](https://ift-firmware.s3.us-west-1.amazonaws.com/gremsy/Vio_sw_package-3.0.6.zip) package. Do not extract the zip file. 
3. Plug in the Vio payload into the aircraft and power on.

WARNING: Do not interrupt the drones power for the entire duration of the firmware update! Do not power off the drone until the Vio feed reappears on the controller.

4. Wait 1.5 mins for the gimbal to fully initialize.
5. Plug a USB-C to USB-A cable between a Windows PC and the bottom of the Gremsy Vio camera.

6. After plugging in the Vio, follow [these steps from Gremsy](https://docs.gremsy.com/payloads/vio/hardware-configuration/computers-ip-configuration) to set a static ethernet IP address.
7. Open a web browser, and enter the following address in the search bar: 192.168.55.1:8000
8. Press enter, and the Vio web GUI should appear.
9. Select the "OTA Update" button.

10. Select "Manual Update", and "Choose File", selecting the downloaded zip file downloaded in Step 2. Press "Update".

11. The Web GUI will lose connection with the camera as the update process takes place, but wait until the feed has returned to IGC, and the web GUI reappears. If successful, the following message will appear.

## Vio Gimbal Firmware Update Steps

1. Verify that IGC is updated to the latest version. [How to update](/inspired-documentation/products/inspired-suite/inspired-ground-control-igc/how-to-update-install-igc/updating-installing-igc-manually.md).
2. Download and install the latest version of Gremsy gTune on a Windows PC: [gTune Desktop 1.4.9.7 (Windows)](https://ift-firmware.s3.us-west-1.amazonaws.com/gremsy/gTuneDesktop-1.4.9.7-Windows.zip).
3. Additionally, download [Vio Gimbal Firmware v7.8.7](https://ift-firmware.s3.us-west-1.amazonaws.com/gremsy/Vio-Firmware-787_Official.zip).
4. Plug in the Vio payload into the aircraft and power on.
5. Using a USB-C to USB-A cable, connect the Vio Gimbal to the PC using the USB connector on the Vio Dovetail.&#x20;

6. Open gTune and select the Gremsy Vio (the program should select Vio automatically). Press the "Connect" button.

7. Select "Settings", "Upgrade", "Upgrade Firmware".

8. Select "Manual Upgrade"

9. Select "Browse", and select the downloaded .hex file.

10. If a pop-up appears warning to unplug SBUS/SPEKTRUM, disregard this message and press "OK". No action is required.

11. Select "Upgrade", and wait for the upgrade process to complete.

12. Return to the gTune home page, and verify the firmware version has been updated to 7.8.7.&#x20;

If all steps above have been completed, the Gremsy Vio is updated, and will now be fully functional with the latest version of IGC.&#x20;
